Woolies received a message from a customer via social media, thanking two Dash drivers for helping her vulnerable, elderly dad during a crisis. Woolworths contacted his family, and the Dash drivers, and the story they shared was quite remarkable…

It became clear that the elderly gentleman had not been well in the days leading up to the incident. In a deeply confused and fragile state, he had taken his car from his care home in Somerset West, but did not return. The family spent hours driving the streets in distress, the police were contacted and were on the lookout. It was after 9pm when the family got a call letting them know that their father had been brought back to the home safely by two Woolies Dash drivers.

Tylon, a Woolies Dash driver from Waterstone, came across the gentleman at a robot on the N2. He was disorientated and confused. When Tylon asked if he could assist, the gentleman gave the name of his care home but didn’t know how to get back. Tylon didn’t recognise the name, so called his brother Tyson (also a Dash driver), who immediately headed over to help. Tylon waited with the elderly man for the 30 minutes it took his brother to travel to them, and both drivers escorted the gentleman safely home.

A video outlining the events of the evening was posted to the Woolies social media pages on Thursday afternoon, 5 December, and has gone viral. In less than 24 hours, the video has been shared over 1000 times and watched over 150 000 times. Instagram user lifestylewithneeta commented, “This made me cry, it’s such a gift to spread kindness ❤️✨”, a popular sentiment in the comment section.

This act of kindness, and the warm response online, serves as a gentle reminder to us all – let’s keep a caring eye out for each other this holiday season.
