COUNTRY ROAD SUMMER 2008 COLLECTION
September 26, 2008
Country Road Summer 08 takes inspiration from the 70’s in both key silhouettes and the layering of soft feminine shapes with vintage styling an important trend. The crisp retro feel is key and the collection works off a neutral base of antique white, cream and bleached denim with pops of raspberry red, apple green, late night and bright violet. Summer “must haves” include the high-waisted, flare leg trouser in bleached or white denim mixed back with a vintage mini printed floral blouse, a tan leather sling bag and skinny belt to complete the look. High-waisted denim shorts teamed with fitted tuckedin shirts and accessorised with a straw trilby, platform heels and an oversized contrast detail bag creates a sexy 70’s summer look. Country Road takes a bold new approach with dresses this season. Ethnic-inspired maxi dresses in black and navy with a tie dye print are fresh and stylish, and  a modern look when paired back with the gladiator flats. The shirt dress is also a key item this season in a variety of crisp Italian cottons with stitch detailing that creates a fresh and effortless style. Special occasion dressing channels a new, softer style with intricate attention to detail key. Vintage buttons, fine pleating, spoke stitch and drape detailing in beautiful silk habitue and crepe de chine fabrications work from daytime through to evening. Swimwear also carries the 70’s feel with mini floral prints and variegated striped bikinis and for something new, the slim line one piece halter neck in black, white and red tops off this “jet set” feel. The look would not be complete without a geometric lace trim kaftan in printed cotton voile or graphic ikat print cotton dress teamed back with a straw carry bag creating a truly relaxed summer vibe. For men’s casual wear “Vintage Riviera” is a key theme with cargo shorts and layered henleys over tees for an understated, chic look. Stretch polos styled with Country Road’s new authentic wash striped shorts  the relaxed vintage feel. Graphic tees, textured cotton checks, and batik inspired board shorts capture the understated beach summer style. Suiting is slick and sharp with Italian fabrications in navy, blue and pale grey colourways. Slim-line shirting in gelato colours with fresh lime, bursts of bright pink, cornflower blue and aqua are layered up with light v-neck merino wool sweaters, adding freshness to the smart career capsule for summer. Distinct vintage and safari-inspired styling is carried through the accessories range for women and men where everything old is new again. Tan dominates and two-tone contrasting detail gives statement pieces a retro twist. For her, oversized clutches and totes in poppy red, yellow and flamingo pink with warm caramel detailing are key. Platform wedges and stack heels reign while washed gold T-bar and gladiator sandals in caramel and strawberry hint at an ethnic influence. The ballet flat is updated for summer with contrast detail piping and two-tone stretch elastic and skinny leather roll belts complete the vintage look. For accessories for him, the pre-loved look dominates in authentic washes and soft leathers. Team an oversized leather contrast strap bag with the new suede desert boots, rusty red canvas trainer or tobacco leather loafer for a relaxed weekend summer look. ENDS
