WOOLWORTHS ADDS TO ITS IMPRESSIVE OFFERING OF TOP QUALITY RESERVE WINES
May 9, 2008
Selected and blended exclusively for Woolworths by Cape Wine Master Allan Mullins, Woolworths reserve wines have, over the past 8 years, gained an enviable reputation for quality. The existing range of eight has now been extended with the addition of three exciting new wines from some of South Africa’s leading estates. Spier Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2005 is an impressive wine with well-structured tannins and elegant fruit. The grapes for this wine were hand-picked from selected vineyards, gently vinified and matured in new French oak for 18 months. Ready to be enjoyed now, it should continue to mature for 2-3 more years. A special selection of Morgenhof Estate finest Merlot vineyards has been used to make Woolworths Morgenhof Merlot Reserve 2005. Full-bodied yet with soft tannins, this outstanding wine shows upfront dark chocolate with hints of plum. 18 months in new French oak has helped concentrate the flavours and brought out a rewarding complexity. Joining the reserve family of white wines is a Barrel Chenin Blanc Reserve 2007 from Ken Forrester Wines. Barrel and tank fermented, it displays apricot and peach with lime and vanilla oakiness on the nose and a full, complex fruit/spice/oak palate which makes it an ideal partner for spicy Thai foods or Malay curries. While it is ready to be enjoyed, it should continue to develop in the bottle for another 2-3 years. The reserve range now consists of: Chenin Blanc Reserve 2007– Ken Forrester (R 41.95) Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2007 – Groote Post (R 89.95) Chardonnay Reserve 2006 – Danie De Wet (R 94.94) Noble Late Harvest 2006 – Ken Forrester (R 64.95) Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2005 – Neil Ellis (R 79.95) Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2005– Spier (R 99.95) Merlot Reserve 2005 – Morgenhof (R 99.95) Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz Reserve 2006 – La Motte (R 64.95) Pinotage Reserve 2006 – Bellevue (R 74.95) Shiraz Reserve 2005 – Darling Cellars (R 64.95) Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2005 – Diemersfontein (R 124.95) ENDS
